No new pictures of him, but Raul Castro declares his brother the cadaverous caudillo Fidel Castro is doing well:
“Now you know that Fidel is fine, and not like the rumours around here,” Raul Castro said….
He’ll truly be “fine” when he croaks, at least from the perspective of about 11 million Cubans who want freedom.

So says the president of Argentina, who just visited the dictator-on-a-deathbed:
Fidel Castro watched the U.S. inauguration on television and said Wednesday that Barack Obama seems “like a man who is absolutely sincere,” Argentina’s president said after meeting with the ailing Cuban icon. “Fidel believes in Obama,” Cristina Fernandez said.
Ahhhh, another ringing endorsement for Obama.

After making a big deal that Fidel Castro’s cadaver wouldn’t be seen in public anymore, Venezuela’s own (a)version of Castro, Hugo Chavez, is taking back what he said now:
Venezuela’s presidential press office confirmed Friday that Chavez said Castro “is working, writing” and following international affairs.
Yeah, I’m sure there’s a TV set in his casket.

…over word that if he’s not actually dead yet, Fidel Castro is on his deathbed.
- We had the story just last night that Castro parrot Hugo Chavez said you won’t be seeing Castro in public anymore.
- Babalu Blog has posted several items–here, here and here, for example–and they’re even taking a poll on the subject.
- The Miami Herald has an article about Fidel Castro’s health.
- A Spanish (as in, from Spain) newspaper called “Cuba Encuentro” (Cuba Encounter) is noting rumors of Fidel Castro’s death are coming up again (link is in Spanish) because of his apparent absence from the public eye (he hasn’t “written” any op-ed pieces in at least four weeks, despite such events as his
revoltingrevolution’s anniversary, for example). - The Associated Press via Yahoo! News is saying pretty much the same thing.
- El Pais (The Nation), another Spanish newspaper, notes movements in Cuba’s Interior Ministry and its Armed Forces (link is in Spanish).
Meanwhile, as I write this, Drudge has nothing about the Fidel Castro rumors.

No, we’re not talking symphonies here. Although given where on his decrepit old body he’s been operated, I’m sure he’s “composing symphonies” of his own, in a manner of speaking.
No, what we’re talking about is a report on Miami TV last night, according to Babalu Blog, that Fidel Castro has undergone surgery again recently, his fifth since he took ill in 2006. According to Babalu Blog, this was reported by Dr. Jaime Suchliki of the University of Miami, who himself was citing an unnamed source he considers credible.
Time will tell if this story is true or not…
