Just a note to let you know I plan to do some maintenance on the site/blog during the long Thanksgiving Day weekend. So I ask for your patience if, when you happen to come by, the site is temporarily unavailable or looks weird.

Be sure to come back later, refresh your browser and check again.

Thanks.

I’m done tinkering around with FeedBurner’s features, for now (no good website is ever truly completed, they’re all works in progress).

I hope if you’re a subscriber to my feed, you get this. If you didn’t, you won’t know until you visit the site that you might need to resubscribe (my apologies for the inconvenience).

We’ve now made it easier to subscribe with just about any form of news reader or aggregator, regardless of whether it accepts RSS or Atom feeds. You can also subscribe to Castro Death Watch by e-mail, if you prefer. Links to both methods are on the sidebar, on the right of the screen, and they’re closer to the top than before.

You can even check out our new Spring Widget, on the bottom right of the page. You can add one to your own site or blog, or even your desktop, and subscribe that way.

Thanks for your visit and subscription. And your patience.

The bulk of my site admin today involves incorporating new (new to me, anyway) features from Feedburner, which is where I administer the feed for this blog. In case you get this post and no other (I plan to send out a “done” post, ot something to that effect, when I’m finished), you may wish to update your RSS or news reader/aggregator. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we hope the new features make things a little better and easier to use here.

Forewarned is forearmed, or something like that. This Sunday evening, September 16, the site will be down for maintenance for possibly as long as several hours. My apologies in advance.

…since I last posted. A lot has been going on in my life lately, from the miniscule to the humongous:

  • My recent spat with the phone(y) company, as detailed here
  • I’m getting married in a little more than a month
  • I moved to a new place–rather, I’m still in the process of moving in (just got furniture today, for example, after living like a refugee for a week)
  • Gotta work on moving the rest of my stuff junk out of my old place AND THEN fixing it up for sale or renting (the stress of having to pay not one but two mortgages is taking a toll)

So there you have it, my dear readers. I hope you understand and thanks for sticking around.

Whatever they want to call themselves–AT&T, BellSouth, HellSouth, POS–they suck.

In case you’re wondering why I haven’t posted in a few days, it’s because my DSL disservice was disconnected. Not for lack of payment on my part, nor because I called to disconnect. But because a new neighbor (I live in a condo) gave them MY address as the address to connect their new disservice.

Of course, when the idiots at the same ol’ same ol’ AT&T looked up my address, they saw existing phone and DSL disservice there.  Well, with existing disservice at an address, you can’t connect new disservice. So they did what came natural: they disconnected my disservice.

I have been fighting with the idiots to restore my disservice ever since. Except now, I want to cancel it and tell them to get lost.

In case you’re wondering, I’m now using Juno’s free service. It’s only slightly slower than AT&T but much cheaper. And unlike AT&T’s DSL, I don’t have to worry about some idiot disconnecting me.

Argh, as a pirate would say. The blog/site was down earlier today due to some sort of technical glitch with our hosting company, which shall remain nameless. Methinks it might have been caused by the switch to Daylight Savings Time earlier in the year than normal.

Oh well, we’re back up now. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hope you like the new look for our header.  The colors match those of the Cuban flag, as does the color scheme for the entire blog.

After much trial-and-error, I think I’ve made the necessary upgrades and the site seems to be back online. I’m not the most technically inclined person in the world, but I’ve learned a bit so I chanced upgrading the software that runs this site, WordPress, all by my lonesome. It took a while, but I figured out the cause of my problems: my FTP program hadn’t uploaded every single one of the files I needed. On its own, it decided to upload a limited number of files and it took me a good part of the day to figure that out.

In any event, if you run into any glitches, please shoot me an e-mail at webmaster | at castrodeathwatch |dot| com. Use standard e-mail formatting.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.
